Distinctive Unit Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a blue mascle surmounting the lower half of maroon Greek cross and enclosed in base by a red scroll, the ends curving behind the horizontal points of the mascle and terminating at the sides of the horizontal arms of the cross, inscribed "WE SAVE LIVES" in silver letters.
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors used for the Army Medical Department. The cross, a traditional symbol for aid and assistance alludes to the basic mission of the Hospital. The diamond shaped device, taken from the State flag of Arkansas, refers to the home area of the 148th Evacuation Hospital.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 September 1971.
